About WGX
What WGX is, how its tools run in your browser, how results are tested and how the site is paid for.
What this is
WGX is a collection of free browser tools — an image editor, time and pay calculators, image, PDF and developer tools, and generators — for the small tasks that come up at work. Every tool does one job, opens immediately and works on a phone.
What this site uses
Almost everything here is written for this site. Two things are not, and both are named where they are used: the word list behind the Password Generator's passphrases is the EFF Long Wordlist of 7,776 words, published by the Electronic Frontier Foundation under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license; and a small number of open-source libraries do work no browser offers on its own, each bounded to the one file that reaches it.
How the tools work
The tools run as code in your browser. When you type times into a time card, your browser does the arithmetic and prints the total on the page. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is no account to create and nothing to wait for.
Where a tool cannot work this way, the page says so before you use it. We do not claim local processing for anything that is processed elsewhere.
How the numbers are checked
Each calculation is written as plain, testable code separated from the interface, and covered by automated tests that include the awkward cases: shifts that cross midnight, unpaid breaks longer than the shift, rounding to the nearest quarter hour. Every calculator page shows the formula it uses, so you can check the result by hand, and every other tool page says what the tool does to your input and where it stops being reliable.
How this is paid for
Advertising, once it is switched on — there is none yet. Ads will sit in fixed positions around the content and never cover, delay or gate a result. If a tool works, it will work whether or not an ad loads.
Reporting a wrong answer
A calculator that disagrees with your payroll is a bug worth hearing about. Send the inputs you used and the result you expected through the contact page.
