Privacy
What happens to the data you type, and what is collected while you browse.
What you type
The values you enter into a tool — times, wages, files, text — are processed by your own browser and are not transmitted to WGX. They are not stored, logged or shared, and they disappear when you close the tab unless the tool explicitly saves them in your browser and tells you so.
No account
There is no sign-up, no login and no user profile. WGX does not ask for your name, email address or payment details to use a tool.
What is measured
The site is served by Cloudflare, which receives your IP address and your browser's request in order to deliver the page. Each page also loads Cloudflare Web Analytics, a small script that reports the visit: the page's address, the page you came from, your browser and how fast the page loaded. It sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, and does not see anything you type into a tool — no tool puts its input in the page's address. We see only totals: which pages are read, where readers come from and how quickly pages load. Google Search Console reports, in aggregate, which searches lead to the site. No cross-site identifier is used by either.
Google Analytics
WGX also uses Google Analytics 4, but only once you say yes: nothing of Google's loads, and no Google cookie is set, until you press Accept on the banner or the button below. Accepting sets two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_<container id>, which hold a persistent identifier so returning readers can be counted; they last up to two years unless you or your browser clears them sooner. This is the one thing on the site that behaves differently depending on where you are in the world without you doing anything: readers in the EEA and the UK are asked before it happens because the law there requires it, and everyone else is asked for the same reason it is the right way to ask.
Google Analytics answers a question Cloudflare Web Analytics, above, cannot: whether a reader who opens a tool goes on to use it, and where traffic that is not from a search engine comes from. The two are not reconciled — a reader who declines is counted by Cloudflare and not by Google, so their numbers will differ, and that difference is the cost of declining being real rather than a formality.
Change your answer at any time with the control below, which stores it under a single key named wgx-consent, holding the word granted or the word denied — it is what keeps the banner from asking again, on this browser, until you change it here.
Turning it off stops the reporting for the rest of this visit and removes both cookies from this browser; it does not erase what Google Analytics already collected while it was on — that takes asking Google directly, from your Google Account's data controls, or writing to the contact page and asking us to do it on your behalf where we can.
Checking your saved choice…
Advertising
There is no advertising on the site yet, and no ad network's code runs on any page. When advertising is added it will come from a third-party ad network, which may set cookies or similar identifiers to select and measure ads. This section will be updated before that happens, and where consent is required a consent banner will appear before any such identifier is set, with your choice changeable at any time from the same banner.
Contact and email
If you email us, we keep your message and address for as long as it takes to answer you and to fix anything you reported. That is the only situation in which WGX holds personal data you supplied.
Your choices
You can block cookies in your browser and the tools will still work, because they do not depend on cookies. To ask what is held about you, or to have a message deleted, use the contact page.
Two things can be kept in your browser without asking for anything more than a single press. Until you press the theme button, nothing is stored and the site follows your system's light or dark setting. Once you press it, your choice is stored under a single key named wgx-theme, holding the word light or the word dark, and it stays until you clear this site's data — there is no button that goes back to following your system. It is never sent anywhere.
The other is your answer to the Google Analytics question, described above: press Accept or Decline and it is stored under a single key named wgx-consent, holding the word granted or the word denied — it is what keeps the banner from asking again, on this browser, until you change your answer. It is never sent anywhere either.
One thing can be kept for longer, and only if you ask for it. The Time Card Calculator offers to keep the pay period you are working on — one week or two — on this device. It is off until you tick it. Ticked, it writes two keys to this browser. The punches, breaks, settings and rate you typed go under wgx-time-card — what the form holds and nothing more: no totals, no identifier, no record of when you used it. The second, wgx-time-card-remember, holds the word yes and nothing else; it is how the page knows, next visit, that you asked. Untick the box, or press "Forget this week", and both are deleted at once; clearing this site's data does the same. Neither is ever sent anywhere, and no other tool keeps anything between visits.
Some of what people paste here is a credential. The Base64 Encoder & Decoder reads a whole JWT when you paste one, so that its payload and its expiry can be shown in plain words. That reading happens in your browser like every other calculation here: the token is not sent anywhere, not stored, and not kept when you leave the page. The signature is never checked, because checking it would need the key it was signed with, and the page says so beside the answer.
One other thing can be held in your browser, and only for a moment. When you press "Open in the editor" on one of the image tools, the picture you chose is written to your browser's own storage (IndexedDB, in a single record named wgx-handover) so the editor can open it on the next page. The editor deletes that record as it reads it, before it shows the picture. If the editor is never opened, the next image tool you visit deletes the record, unread, once it is ten minutes old. The picture never leaves your device on the way.
