Choose the PDF to turn.
What this does
It shows every page of a PDF the way it lies, lets you turn each one by a quarter or a half turn, and saves the document that way — one page, several pages turned different ways, or all of them. A scan that came out sideways, or one landscape table lying on its side in the middle of a portrait report, opens the right way up afterwards, in every reader, on every device.
How to use it
- Choose the PDF. Every page appears, the way it lies.
- Press the arrows under a page to turn it left or right. It is drawn turned, so you can see it is right before anything is saved.
- For many pages, type them in Pages to turn — or leave it blank for all — and press Turn left, Turn right or Half turn.
- Check the line beside the button, press Save rotated PDF, and download the file.
Pages are numbered from 1, the way your reader numbers them. 8- means page 8 to the end, and last is the last page.
Why the turn in your reader does not last
Most PDF readers rotate the view: the file on disk is unchanged, and the next time it opens — or the moment it is sent to someone — the page is sideways again. Every page in a PDF carries a number saying how far it is turned. This page changes that number and saves the file, so the turn travels with the document.
The turn is added to what the page already had. A page at 90° turned another 90° clockwise ends at 180° — which is why every page is shown as it lies now, already including its rotation, so the turn you choose is the one that fixes what you see.
What is kept
Everything. Unlike putting pages into a new file, rotating saves the same document with one number changed on each page, so bookmarks, form fields, links and the title in its properties all stay where they were. The one exception is a digital signature, which any change to a signed PDF invalidates — sign after rotating, not before.
What it cannot do
A PDF page can only be turned in quarter turns, so a crooked scan cannot be straightened here. A photo of the page can be turned before it goes into a PDF with the Image Rotator. To move pages rather than turn them, use Split PDF, which extracts, deletes and reorders them.
Nothing is uploaded
Your browser reads the file, turns the pages and saves the result. Nothing is sent anywhere, and the test suite for this page records the requests the tool makes while a file is processed and fails if one of them could carry it.
Questions
How do I rotate a PDF and save it?
Choose the PDF and every page appears, the way it lies. Turn the pages that are wrong with the arrows under each one — or turn them all at once — and press Save rotated PDF. The file opens the right way up in every reader, because the turn is saved in the file rather than in one viewer.
Can I rotate just one page?
Yes. Press the arrow under that page, and only that page turns; the rest stay as they are. Different pages can turn different ways in the same save. For many pages at once, type them in Pages to turn, like 1, 3-4, and press Turn left, Turn right or Half turn.
Why does rotating in my PDF reader not stick?
Most readers turn the view, not the file: close it and the page is sideways again. This page changes the rotation written in the document itself, so the new file opens turned everywhere.
What if a page was already rotated?
The turn is added to it. A page already at 90° turned another 90° clockwise ends at 180°, so choose the turn that fixes the page as you see it now.
Will I lose bookmarks or form fields?
No. Rotating changes one number on each page and saves the same document, so bookmarks, form fields, links and the document’s title all stay. A digital signature does not: any change to a signed PDF invalidates it.
Can I straighten a slightly crooked scan?
Not here. A PDF page can only be turned in quarter turns. Straightening a crooked scan means editing the picture on the page, which is an image edit rather than a PDF one.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Your browser reads the PDF, turns the pages and saves the result on your device. The test suite for this page fails if any request the tool makes while a file is processed could carry one.
